Prosperity Handwoven Silk Scarf

Made with the finest hand-dyed silk yarns, this handwoven Prosperity scarf, with rich red background, is woven with a hand-dyed vibrant red weft further intensifying the colour. The contrasting “colour bars”, hand-painted with dyes in shimmery shades of golden yellow through to orange, are incorporated using a supplementary warp technique allowing the colours to float on the surface.  These extra warp threads are tightly woven in with the background in places. 
In Chinese culture, the pairing of red and gold is the ultimate symbol of auspiciousness. Together, these vibrant colours represent joy, luck, and prosperity. Red is associated with life-generating energy (like the sun and fire) to ward off evil, while gold signifies wealth and nobility. 
 
This piece, made from 100% silk at 128 ends (threads) per inch in the pattern section, is individually designed and has been exquisitely woven on a traditional 8 shaft floor loom, resulting in a soft, luxurious, sumptuously coloured silk textile. Every scarf is finished with hand hemstitching, a fringe and a “Jaine Mahon” label.
